One of the founders of Holt & Macdonald, Robert Wilfred Holt — known as Bob Holt — was educated at the University of Melbourne before admission as a legal practitioner in 1940.

In addition to legal practice, Bob Holt had a distinguished parliamentary career. In 1945 he was elected to the Victorian Legislative Assembly as the Labor member for Portland. Following re-election in 1950, he served as Minister for Lands and Social Settlement from 1952 to 1953.

In 1955 he was elected to the Australian House of Representatives as the member for Darebin, before retiring from federal politics in 1958.

Holt & Macdonald later became a well-established Ringwood legal practice serving individuals, families, businesses and property clients throughout Melbourne's eastern suburbs.

Over the decades the firm was long associated with legal services throughout Ringwood and Melbourne's eastern suburbs, including through the work of practitioners such as Don Ryan and Ron Frederick.

Today, the practice continues through Parke Lawyers, led by Jim Parke, from offices at 281 Maroondah Highway, Ringwood, with a complementary presence in Melbourne's CBD on Collins Street — serving clients across Maroondah, the eastern suburbs and greater Melbourne.
